Jessica Stephani: Pierces Your Dream

'Pierces Your Dream'

Jessica apa kabar?

-> Wah structural sekali:D. Baik-baik, can’t complain.

-> Actually, I feel that way as well:P (No, I am joking). Because lowkey generosity is the key. Hahaha

---

3. Jessica, kalo boleh tau, jurusannya apa yaa? Sama itu jurusannya kerjaannya yg ngapain?

-> Boleh donk! Saya kuliah jurusan Master of Energy di University of Auckland. Jurusan nya kerjaan ngapain aja? Hmmmm As far as I know banyak ya. Intinya kan energy mostly dikategorikan dua ya hydrocarbon sama renewable energy.

Teknis mostly diklasifikasikan as engineer or scientist gitu seperti Geologist, Well Engineer, Production Engineer atau Drilling Fluid Engineer (pamer mantan kerjaan). Kalau Non teknis biasanya yang related to business and commercial, law etc; kayak business analyst, business development analyst, policy maker, policy, consultant, atau bahkan HSE officer (health, safety, and environment officer).

-> Bhaique, kalau kata Nidji, “mimpi adalah kunci”, jadi sama lagi, dream is a key.

5. Apakah ke NZ itu merupakan impian Jessica?

-> Hmmm, Kalau boleh jujur si iya iya engga. Hahahha. Ini bisa panjang sih ceritanya. Well, I found myself really in the middle of the jungle. Starting with a different background as an Industrial Engineer, then I was able to have quite a long tenure as a drilling fluid engineer in an oil and gas services company. Yes, I indeed dream of working there just before my bachelor's graduation. So, I thought I was living my dream! how can I, as a non-technical bachelor against the world to be a field engineer. That's also one of the reasons I really believe in the power of praying and the law of attraction.

During my work there, I also aspire to apply Master's Degree as petroleum engineering in Germany and geothermal engineering in Iceland. Long story short, thank God, although I need to reroute, I got a scholarship to NZ to study geothermal energy. So, I can say NZ is not really my dream at first. But hey, you always have Beta to Omega plan (even beyond), when Alpha does not work. Living your unplan dream is the best ever. This story still continues tho…

->

That’s why I thought the above story to work as a field engineer was a utopia; actually, it wasn’t…. Then the plot twist comes when I was moving to a very different business so-called unicorn startup in SEA and have a progressive position. That really broaden my mind and sight, but at the same time, I was really discouraged looking back to what I have done in the past four years.

I indeed asked myself “where have I been for such long time?”, “Did I just pay my bill?”, “Was I developed?” “But I was so happy back then for all the cheers, benefit, international training, and so on. So what was wrong, what was missing?” Then I learned that the most important things in your career or life is not only about your comfort zone but also your value, vision, and growth. Although it is difficult, they really need to be embodied in one function. How you can grow, how you can have a purpose? How you enjoy your work? Those are not cliché, but they are there.

Then, here comes the big question mark: I hold a postgraduate scholarship opportunity and a progressive career as a choice. That was a frustrating moment; I could really say (I am not exaggerating myself). I felt failed when the plan does not work well. A silly story that brings me to join IELTS preparation in Surabaya and travel back to Jakarta for work every week, local problem as a newly-wed wife, etc. The thing is my boss knew my stories, and he really emphasized that energy is not my thing, and I should rather go to business school instead. I could say that because my boss really did not want me to resign as well.

So, the moment of truth came when my boss tried to retain me and asked me to have dinner with my CEO. The meeting actually brought my tear down, when my best CEO ever (thanks a lot pak Ridzki Kramadibrata!) said that at first, he tried to offer me a very good remuneration and position, but after heard my story, he realized every people have a different journey, and he really believed that I will be going stronger. Then the decision is…I actually revisit my value and vision to bring to NZ! The bottom line is: YES, I can strongly and optimistically say being here in NZ does help me achieve my purpose.

Mba Jessica memiliki pengalaman kerja yg luar biasa baik.

-> Satu kata sih : Wow! Ini saya bingung sih jawabnya, mungkin jadi pendek dibandingkan sebelumnya hahah. Jujur saya selalu mikir everybody is worthy of their uniqueness, and you can learn from everybody and everything, literally. I can say this also being reshaped when I was a field engineer si, saya terbiasa ketemu orang baru dan harus bisa team work dengan siapa saja dengan latar belakang apa aja. So don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate my job as an engineer; actually, I am really grateful, and I do learn a lot (sometimes at hard way). To be noted, not all people have the privilege to choose their job like us. Sometimes what they know is how to live or struggle their day. The thing is all of our unique experiences bring us to become more human. Mungkin kalau bisa saya bilang itu kunci nya kali ya, all my experiences teach me to become human.

7. Suami yg selalu support juga mungkin? (Pertanyaan yg bisa buat modus ke suami)

-> It was not hard at the beginning. We do fight, c’mon who doesn’t? But I can’t thank my God enough to have him by my side to always support his abnormal wife (yes, I am). Jadi buat buat wanita-wanita yang kenyang ditanya kapan nikah, kapan hamil, kapan punya anak 1,2,3,4,5, Go work your ass off and rock the world!

---

-> Life is a journey, go after to chasing meaning, keep growing, and trust yourself to handle it. The most important thing is to be happy and crazy!

9. Siapa yg menurut kamu cukup keren untuk diinterview berikutnya? . GAK BOLEH JAWAB BATARA. 😂

->Kayaknya udah di kode-kode dari awal. Oke teman-teman ini pertanyaan adalah modus dari admin untuk kasih award ke DSR a.k.a Dian Sastrowardoyo a.k.a Dian Septa Rianti! But I genuinely recommend her! She is such an inspiring and generous woman.

10. Terakhir, 1 kalimat untuk nznesia?

Carpe Diem! Bonne Chance!

terima kasih Jessica :)
